Octopus Birthday Cake
I loved making this cake!!! I like to put my sculptural skills to the test, and I was able to work with a modeling chocolate/fondant mixture, my favorite when it comes to modeling work. The lettering, seaweed, coral, crab, shells, etc are all fondant, I used some brown sugar for the sand and a bit of tinted piping gel for the water. Beneath all that decorated goodness is a chocolate cake, filled with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting… and oh man, was it good! Probably the best part of making this cake was meeting Geraldine and her awesome family… Anthony her husband and her two birthday boys, Ante and Hans. They were gracious enough to invite my family to their party, and we had such a blast! We’ve definitely made some new friends, and we have a delicious octopus cake to thank for it!
Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake & Cupcakes
Every little girl loves Minnie Mouse, including Chloe who turned 4 this past weekend. Her favorite flavor is chocolate, and I paired it with cream cheese frosting, for both the cake and cupcakes. All decorations are fondant, except for the ears… which are a mix of cereal treats, white chocolate, modeling chocolate and fondant… and a few toothpicks to hold them up!
Texas Rangers Custom Baby Shower Cake Topper
A dear friend from school is having her third baby, a boy, and the whole family are huge Rangers fans… so, of course baby Samuel Austin will be one too! This topper was made from polymer clay, wire and painted howlite beads for eyes.
Sprockets Dog Birthday Cake
This is the week of name brand labels! I was asked to create a birthday cake for Nixon, who is turning one… Mom said that for Koreans, the first birthday is a big one! They didn’t want a huge cake, since there would be tons of other sweets and desserts… but they did want a show piece that everyone could take pics of. The 2D design was hers, and I really like the way it turned out, just like the drawing of the Sprockets puppy on the clothes label. Happy first birthday, Nixon!
Patron Cake
Hey there chocoholics… here’s a vice that won’t get you thrown in jail for overindulging! Chocolate with chocolate buttercream… fondant decorations… and yes, even the wood! The only thing that isn’t edible is the satin ribbon. So let’s toast! To cake!
